Your Dog Barks When Delivery Arrives—What Can You Do?
The doorbell rings, and your dog rushes to bark. Unexpected visitors, movement and hallway sounds can trigger excitement or worry—especially in an apartment.
Prepare before the door opens
Have treats and a safe place ready away from the entrance. Keep your dog secure so a courier cannot accidentally let them escape.
Reward a different choice
Practise a simple cue such as 'go to your mat' when no one is there. Reward calm moments, then gradually add quiet door sounds.
Manage real deliveries
If your dog is too excited to respond, use distance and a closed door or barrier. Don't yell over the barking or force a greeting.
Try this: Make training short and easy. If barking includes panic, lunging or a bite risk, consult a reward-based behavior professional.
